The Healing Power of Mother Earth

Jaded Truth is, I’ve been feeling a bit jaded of late, nothing specific but not quite on form – I’m sure you know what I mean.  Well, today I had a ‘eureka moment’!  As with all great discoveries (although I wouldn’t put this in the same class as penicillin or the splitting of the atom), it happened by accident.

We’re going away next week (more about that in another post because it’s a BIGGIE, the realisation of a lifetime’s dream), and the grass was responding to the sun and showers.  If left unattended until our return, only a scythe would do the job . . .

Lawnmower Son took charge of the lawnmower and I decided to equip myself with the shears and  do a little tidying and trimming.  Well, before I knew it an hour had passed!  I felt invigorated and encouraged to do more.  By this time I was like a whirling dervish,  weeding, tidying, enjoying the scents of Mother Nature’s creation and the beauty ofGtools_2  the freshly trimmed bushes looking perky and colourful.  I felt my inner self responding to Mother Earth.

Just a tad fanciful, you may be thinking.  But the veil has lifted and suddenly I’m aware of the cause of my problem.  You see, during term time I do the school run and then The Mutleys and I take to the fields for up to an hour or so.  Even in the rain, we go where I can walk on gravel and they can run Felton_tree_photoweb like mad things, jumping to catch the raindrops, exalting in the pleasure of the day, whatever the environmental factors.  Since mid-June, when the GCSEs finished, daughter hasn’t been at school therefore no school run in the morning; an extra hour in bed, sure, but no fresh air and communing with Nature.  Didn’t realise how much value that added to my world.  It brought with it time and space just to ‘be’ and think.

Instead, switching on my computer and sitting in front of it for hours has been my introduction to the day.  My energy levels dropped and I’ve felt distracted.  But the solution is so simple! I really do need to get out more!  Hey, I’m feeling better already . . .

NOTE TO SELF:  Nurture and stimulate the spirit and life flows from a place of wellbeing.  Enjoy!

P.S. Came in from garden to find a row of black bags lining the landing.  Daughter has cleared out her wardrobe (and entire life by the look of it!) for bootsale to raise the £2,400 needed for the trip to Madagascar next year.  Better lock away the silver . . .
